Leave a Legacy of Service

Some City Year supporters choose to leave a donation in their wills and trusts as an important way to have long-term impact, without any upfront cost during their lifetimes. Making a will is one of the most impactful ways to extend your love and generosity for your family and friends. It can also help bridge the gap in high-need schools while developing future leaders. By leaving a gift to City Year in your will or trust, you are building a powerful legacy of extraordinary service in your community.

Legacy Giving Is For Everyone

Legacy giving isn’t only for the wealthy — gifts of any size are deeply appreciated, and there is a wide range in gift sizes from $50 to $1 million.

One path to getting started is to use this free tool provided by FreeWill. With FreeWill, you can create a legal will online at no cost to you or document your wishes and find an attorney near you. Specify within your will the amount or percentage of your estate you’d like to leave (if any) to City Year and other charity organizations.

If you’d prefer to go straight to an attorney to draft your will and you choose to leave a gift in your will, or if you already have an existing will that you would like to update by adding a gift to City Year, we suggest the following language and to advise us of your intentions:

“I bequeath (amount OR percentage) to City Year, Inc., a nonprofit corporation organized and existing under the laws of Massachusetts, with the principal business address of 287 Columbus Avenue, Boston, MA 02116 USA and federal tax identification number 22-2882549 in support of City Year [CITY].”

Rest assured knowing you’ll be making positive change for generations to come.

Endowment

City Year has a growing endowment to help sustain our work in perpetuity, providing a permanent legacy opportunity for our donor community and ensuring that City Year’s service will continue to benefit communities and the nation as a whole, while developing the leadership and civic skills of our corps members for generations to come.

Types of Gifts

  • Gifts made in perpetuity of any size to a City Year site or national work are welcome to the general endowment fund.
  • Endowment gifts can be made as one-time donations, multi-year pledges, or as part of a planned gift.
  • Platinum Teams (Red Jacket Society) supported by individuals/family foundation or Team Sponsorships from corporate partners may be permanently endowed with a gift of $2.25 million committed over one or more years.

We would be honored to discuss opportunities to endow and name specific City Year programs and initiatives with interested philanthropists. To learn more, please contact Nina Barker Blain at nbarker@cityyear.org
